Moving a Door

Moving this door was not as easy as I thought it would be.  We are moving the door to the right about 18" to allow a tall pantry to go on the right side of the fridge.  I had to move the electrical wiring to the right and then move the door.  The wiring ended up being a PAIN!  My dad came to help on Sunday and we started moving the wiring.  Its kinda too complicated to try and explain in words what we did but lets just say, 3 junction boxes in the attic with 5 wires in/out of each  later, and we were done.

So the original plan was to have the door completely moved by Sunday night.  We didn't get that done, but getting the wiring done was a feat in and of itself.  So then Tuesday we set out to move the door.  That also didn't go as quick as I thought it would go.  I made the rough framing too small so it was really hard to get the prehung door square and level.  So Tuesday night at 10pm we decided to just set the door in the frame and put a piece of plywood over the big hole and call it a night.  Last I finally managed to get the door to fit and work.  I had to modify my rough frame to make it bigger so I could make adjustments to the prehung door frame.

Lets hope the rest of this project doesn't go this way.  Here's some photos:

This weekend Sara's parents are coming up and her dad is going to stay until next weekend to help out.  I put together a detailed schedule and if things go as planned, we will have cabinets installed by the end of next week.  However, things never really go as planned right???

Dad should be a big help for you guys this weekend and next week. Hopefully the weather is rainy, otherwise he will spend most of his time on a golf course, and not helping you.

NOT TRUE Lewis! (Although I am bringing the clubs, just in case; I think it takes about 18 holes for drywall compound to dry!) Fear not, Jason and Sara, I will not abandon you in your time of triumph/trial/travail!

No worries! There will be time for golf. I just might have to join you though! :)

Did you notice the 36 can case of Dr. Pepper in the pictures? That is our plan for keeping Dad busy and on task!! :)

You know I can't resist that caffiene and sugar bribe! Good thing you have one less wall to bounce off of.
