Sara's Aunt had an idea of putting the island at an angle. I started playing around with how we would do that without sacrificing too much useful island cabinet space and still allowing a nice flow through the kitchen. Its almost 11:30pm now and I don't think my mind will work too much more tonight. Here's the design that I got now. This is just a concept. In order to do this we will have to do some flooring work because the area that the 'island' cabinets are now doesn't have flooring under them. So i'm not sure if this will work. Anyone have any thoughts on this layout? Suggestions on how we can layout the island to make it look better? Any REALLY ambitious people want to use my sketchup model and play with different designs???? :)

problem being is I have never used sketchup.
Angling the freestanding cubboard may make the living area seem a little bigger - probably a good idea.

you're thinking too much. Grab a mallet! Start bringing down walls!!
do the drawers work as well if the island is angled?
id have to put a little spacer between the two cabinets but basically they would work as normal you just cant open both drawers at once
